Here in the West we love our margaritas year-round, but, sure, we’ll toast with special significance on National Margarita Day.
Jimmy Buffett might have made the mythical Margaritaville the home of tequila’s favorite cocktail, but it’s a beloved drink in the West anytime, including on National Margarita Day, February 22.
As for where it came from? This is cribbed straight from a Google search page: “One of the earliest stories is of the margarita being invented in 1938 by Carlos ‘Danny’ Herrera at his restaurant, Rancho La Gloria, halfway between Tijuana and Rosarito, Baja California, created for customer and former Ziegfeld dancer Marjorie King, who was allergic to many spirits, but not to tequila.”
When we make our next batch of margaritas — with recipes courtesy of Patron — we’ll denfinitely be toasting Danny and Marjorie.
