SaddleBox launches monthly equine giftbox subscription service exclusively for horses and their owners.
When Phil Van Treuren’s dogs started to receive their goodies from BarkBox every month, he noticed a sizeable gap in quality between the services available to his canine and equine companions. Spurred by this vacancy in the marketplace and his family’s love of horses, Van Treuren founded SaddleBox in 2017 (along with his wife, Sharon, and daughter, Sophie) to provide horses and their owners with an exclusively equine subscription option.
The family commenced operations in their basement, but quickly outgrew the space and opened a facility in Avon Lake, Ohio. Today, more than 20,000 horses throughout the U.S. are lucky SaddleBox recipients — each month receiving an assortment of surprises, including grooming equipment, gourmet horse treats, tack, stable supplies, and a variety of equestrian-themed gifts.
“A lot of similar companies outsource their packaging to fulfillment companies once they reach our size, but we enjoy the hands-on experience of packing the boxes ourselves,” Van Treuren says. “We strive to make each box better than the last and never include products that our own horses wouldn’t enjoy.”
SaddleBox is paying its success forward by gifting free monthly boxes to horse-rescue groups in need and donating a percentage of all profits to equine rescue shelters to help increase the number of successful horse adoptions in the U.S. and Canada.
“From the beginning, SaddleBox has been a labor of love, and helping horses in need is one of the things we love most about what we do,” Van Treuren says. “We also want our boxes to foster the special bond owners share with their horses. Every month, we include items that hopefully bring our customers closer to their equine friends.”
