This refreshing watermelon cocktail helps cool you down during these last, hottest days of the season.
I’ve long since stopped using the word watermelon. Edible air-conditioning is a more succinct — because really, what the sweet summer fruit is about the fastest way to cool down while enjoying backyard get-togethers with friends and family. Work watermelon into a cocktail and it’s even better.
With their Watermelon Fresca cocktail, it’s clear, the staff at Odd Duck in Austin, Texas, have this figured out too. Mix up a drink of your own during summer’s last blast.
Watermelon Fresca
1½ ounces Lunazul silver tequila (or your preferred silver tequila)
¼ ounce El Silencio Joven mezcal (or your preferred mezcal)
¼ ounce Aperol
1 ounce watermelon juice
½ ounce lime
1 barspoon of fresh ginger juice
½ ounce tarragon-infused simple syrup (regular simple syrup works too)
Splash dry champagne
Lime wheel, for garnish
Place ingredients into a cocktails shaker. Shake and pour into a glass over ice, finish with a splash of dry champagne. Garnish with a lime wedge.
