The Texas artist debuts his latest track, “Lift Me Up,” exclusively with C&I.
Artist Austin Meade may be a child of the millennium, but his old-school style of songwriting and traditional sound evokes the ’70s.
In his latest album, Waves, Meade’s impressive guitar licks and outsider attitude generate just enough Southern rock and New Age lyrics to please the masses, but at its heart, Waves works because of Meade’s naturalism with the genre. His vocals are just the right amount of rough, his stories are just the right amount of tough, and his persona is just the right amount of edgy. Heck, even his time-capsule look — long wavy hair, a manicured mustache — transcends time.

Album highlights include “Lift Me Up,” a track about moving on from lost love.
"My mind often slips into dark and unsettling thoughts of past relationships or my own fictional imagination. Sometimes an idea will not leave me alone until I write it down ... so I found myself writing this song at 4 a.m. after trying to sleep it off. The idea sprouted from feeling like I had been drug along by some folks for too long. I often feel like I have wasted too much time trying to please everyone, and after a while those efforts can drive you crazy. I wanted to capture that feeling, which is expressed musically in the 'jack-in-the-box' instrumental section. It creates an eerie feeling for me — that allows me to remember how I felt in the moment of writing this song,” Meade says.
“I grew up listening to rock and metal, then found myself sitting and listening to Ryan Adams for weeks at a time. I have always looked up to his non-conformity and lack of worry regarding labels, or targeting a genre. This song pulled some influence from listening to his alt-country records."
