Martina McBride is using her singing talent to raise cancer awareness.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month kicks off October 1, so we’re joining the campaign with a performance of “I'm Gonna Love You Through It” from Martina McBride. The performance took place in 2011 during Opry Goes Pink, an annual Opry tradition in partnership with Women Rock for the Cure that raises funds and awareness for breast cancer. What makes this performance even more impactful is the special introduction by cancer survivor and Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts, who also appears in the official video for the song.
Many country music fans have recognized McBride as a big advocate for cancer awareness since the July 2011 release of “I’m Gonna Love You Through It,” the second single from her record Eleven. The Grammy-nominated song is the story of a 38-year-old wife and mother getting a breast cancer diagnosis told from the perspective of her husband, who vows to help her through it.
McBride has recently taken an even bigger step in her advocacy by teaming up with Sarah Cannon Research Institutes, the Nashville-based global oncology, cardiology, and gastroenterology subsidiary of Hospital Corporation of America. Together they created the Band Against Cancer Tour, uniting cancer experts and communities to connect people with the resources and support they need to face the disease.
“Awareness” emphasizes early detection. We hope sharing McBride’s performance will encourage self-examination and regular checkups and encouraging others to do the same.
McBride’s next concerts on the Band Against Cancer Tour take place on October 8, at the 1st Bank Center, in Broomfield, Colorado, and on October 26 in Nashville on the Grand Ole Opry stage. Find more on Martina McBride at her website.
