Artist of the Month

DESCRIPTION

On Thursday, December 14, the Museum’s Artist of the Month will actually be two artists – John and Edith Maskey. The Maskeys have been painting together since 1977. The two paint from opposite ends in their studio in Comfort. “We enjoy painting together and have been able to make a living doing what we love. Each of us has a message to convey and we say it with watercolors. Each painting gives us the opportunity to share a feeling, an impression of life,” the couple stated.

As the Maskeys progressed through various painting media, both preferred the freedom, the challenge and the versatility of watercolor. They are inspired by the culture and color of the Southwest and Old Mexico. Their uncanny knack for brightening their paintings as though the sun itself had entered gives them a special luminosity. “We try to capture memorable scenes of people and places that preserve the unique character and traditions of the Southwest.”

The couple has won numerous awards in many prestigious exhibits and their paintings are prized by a large following of collectors. They are represented by leading galleries in the Southwest. The exhibition will be up from December 1st through December 30, 2017. The reception will begin at 5:30. It is free for members and open to the public with a suggested donation of $10.

The award-winning Museum of Western Art is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Guided tours are available. For more information, please call 896.2553.
