Skyhorse and Sanchez
Compadres is a classic collaboration
Bonnie and Clyde, Buffalo Bill and Annie Oakley, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid — many dynamic duos have added to the allure of the Wild West. The latest team to join their ranks is that of Skyhorse and Sanchez. Having worked together in leather for more than 40 years, saddlemakers Lisa and Loren Skyhorse collaborated their craft with that of master woodworker Andy Sanchez to create the Compadres, an artistic rendition of a traditional charro saddle. Named in tribute to their partnership, the Compadres is embellished with 50-year-old Mexican silver and features saddlebags overlaid with curly sheepskin. Sanchez sculpted the saddletree from an ancient piece of alligator juniper, which he saved for years, waiting for a worthy project, while the Skyhorses took on the leatherwork — shaping the saddle, carving the inverted tooling, and painting the black detailing, all by hand.
