Snows Lake wine starts in the Mayacamas Mountains
Snows Lake is owned and operated by a California farming family with agricultural experience that spreads across several generations.

Simply numbered, Snows Lake Vineyard's cabernet sauvignon-based One and Two have both consistently won important international wine competitions, including the only Grand Gold awarded to a wine from the United States at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, a Double Gold at the San Francisco International Wine Competition, and a Best in Class at the Pacific Rim International Wine Competition.
Snows Lake One ($45) is 100 percent cabernet sauvignon, while Snows Lake Two ($45) is a varying blend of cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc, which makes it a little more lush and approachable. The cabernet sauvignon is concentrated and power-packed. Grape growers in other parts of the world would kill for this kind of fruit — you can simply buy it by the bottle.

Uniquely situated on the well-drained, gravelly soils of the Mayacamas Mountains, the vineyard is up at 2,000 to 2,500 feet in elevation, making it one of the highest in altitude along the northern coast of California — and making its grapes ripen with true intensity.
The rugged volcanic soils are so red in color that the viticulture region has been aptly named Red Hills Lake County. The vineyard's soil contains unique quartz crystals, historically prized by the Native American Pomo tribes.
The winery continues to offer tribal members access to the property to collect plants and minerals and has taken steps to identify and protect ancient archeological sites on the vineyard property.
