Lakota Cove

Showroom in the North Georgia Mountains features the work of hundreds of designers, including furnishings for cowboy, Native American and equine enthusiasts.

Set on 26 acres of the breathtaking landscape in the North Georgia Mountains, Lakota Cove has become a place that Westerners frequent—for the scenery, company, and furniture. The 12,000-square-foot log building is a gallery of rustic yet elegant home furnishings by more than 400 artisans, boasting a collection comprehensive enough to fully furnish any residence or ranch in cowboy, Native American, and equestrian décor.

Often waiting on the wraparound porch to greet visitors is owner Linda Magness. “We’re always serving coffee, cookies, or hot apple cider,” she says. While the Southern hospitality is a reflection of her Virginia roots, the gallery itself is an embodiment of Magness’ incurable love for the Western lifestyle. “My parents took me to Santa Fe [New Mexico] every summer when I was growing up,” she says. “I just loved it from the time I was a little girl. I was the only girl dressing like a cowgirl in Virginia. I have friends who remember me on horseback, 40 years ago, talking about Lakota Cove, and a log building and horses, so everything I started here is a dream come true.”

A self-taught designer who inherited her mother’s excellent decorative instincts (“Every house we lived in was featured in magazines,” she remembers.), Magness personally picks every collection, designer, and artist represented in her showroom. Among traditional designs accentuated by select contemporary pieces are creations by Jason Scott, Hammerton lighting, Taos drums, hand-forged ironworks, and rustic furniture handcrafted from twisted juniper logs, wagon wheels, and fine leathers.
