Over the Toppers

It was back in 1988 that Carol Carr — a talented textile designer who at the time was producing her own line of hand-painted apparel — decided she was ready for a change of pace. So she asked herself, “If I could design anything, what would I choose?” Almost instantly she knew the answer. “Hats were the first thing that popped into my head,” says Carr. But she didn’t dabble in Western design until after she took a memorable trip to Montana. Falling in love with the cowboy apparel, Carr decided to add Western to her repertoire. “Hats can draw attention to a person more than any other accessory,” Carr says, a statement that becomes especially true if you’re wearing one of her handmade toppers. The designer has a knack for creating vibrant color combos and is not afraid to be bold, but she keeps things traditional where it counts — in her exceptional craftsmanship.
