Live among postcard views at Sidney Peak Ranch
This 1,500-acre gated community offers unobstructed views of Steamboat Ski Mountain in Colorado.
Visit the small town of Sidney, Colorado, near the famed Steamboat ski area and you may meet the descendants of ranchers who first settled the area back in 1887.

One look around at the postcard views in every direction, and it's no mystery why some families have been reluctant to leave.
With the opening of Sidney Peak Ranch, these pioneer descendants are about to get new neighbors. The 1,500-acre gated community consists of 32 large homesites situated on a broad ridge with unobstructed views of the Steamboat Ski Mountain.
Sidney Peak Ranch president and CEO RodHanna described the challenge of developing the community as one that balanced new construction with the preservation of the land's natural beauty and character, which has hardly changed in more than 100 years.
"We designed the property so that the majority is still a working ranch," Hanna says. "The 32 homesites are clustered on a ridge that comprises about 300 acres. The remaining 1,200 acres have been preserved as pasture land." According to Hanna, only eight lots are still available, priced from $1.1 to $1.4 million.
Amenities at Sidney Peak Ranch include nearby skiing, a stocked fishing pond, and a premier membership in the Catamount Ranch and Club, which features a private lake and a golf course designed by Tom Weiskopf.
There are also a 32-stall equestrian center and miles of riding trails, though they are not as busy as Hanna anticipated.
"The property was originally designed for people with horses, but it hasn't turned out that way," he says. "Of the 24 owners, so far, just three or four actually own horses."
That's good news for future residents who are ready to saddle up; the number of lots at Sidney Peak Ranch may be rapidly diminishing, but there's still plenty of room at the stables.
