Templeton Thompson's Top Ten
Templeton Thompson she tells C&I she's constantly listening to music — here's a look at her tastes as she walks through life on Planet Cowgirl.
“Blue Sky Cathedral” by Adam Brand
When I’m out with Jane and Beau and all my [horse] babies, I always tell folks I’m out under my “blue sky cathedral.”
“Little Hercules” by Trisha Yearwood
She’s one of my heroes, and this tune reminds me that balance is so important. So work hard, yeah, but mostly have fun and live!
“Six Foot Town” by Big & Rich
[My husband] Sam and I wore this song out when we were on tour in Texas. I love this one because it feels like Sam and me. We haven’t always done what was necessarily in vogue in Nashville; we’ve just done our own thing. And, no, we haven’t had the big hit tune on the radio yet, but I believe that if you do what you do, stay true to yourself, good, awesome stuff happens.
“Gimme the Good Stuff” by Trisha Yearwood
This tune makes me wanna roll the windows down and sing at the top of my lungs.
“You Remain” by Leslie Satcher
I think my heroes Bonnie Raitt and Willie Nelson recorded it, which rocks, but the versions I know and love come from Leslie Satcher herself.
“Fire and Rain” and “Sweet Baby James” by James Taylor
I find myself singing these a lot. I always sing “Sweet Baby Jane.” We lost a dear cowgirl bud to suicide a bit ago, and right after I heard about her, we were on the road headed for Texas, and “Fire and Rain” came on the radio. Tore my heart out.
“Boulder to Birmingham” by Emmylou Harris
I’ve loved this song since I was a kid. I dream of singing with her one day.
“Real Fine Love” written by John Hiatt and performed by Sons of the Desert
I love the Sons of the Desert version. Drew Womack’s da bomb, a fellow Texan and an amazingly talented guy. And John Hiatt, well, he just plain ol’ rocks.
“Desert Rat” by Michael Martin Murphey
Great tune. I’ve always wanted to know who he wrote it about. Hoping one day to meet him and ask him.
“Circle Dance” by Bonnie Raitt
This one hits home in so many ways. She’s something, man, and someday, to meet and sing with her — that’s on my “bucket list.”
