Return to Freedom

In addition to providing a safe haven for wild horses in need, the Return to Freedom American Wild Horse Sanctuary maintains a preservation program to protect some of the most threatened genetic strains of wild horses, including the Colonial Spanish Horse. The sanctuary is home to the eight remaining purebred descendants of the Colonial Spanish Barbs in the American Southwest, a band known as the Wilbur-Cruce herd. One member of the herd is a rare Medicine Hat brown-and-white pinto named Isadora-Cruce, who was born at Return to Freedom in 2002. To celebrate the rich heritage of the Wilbur-Cruce eight, Breyer Animal Creations has created a model horse in Isadora-Cruce’s image and named Return to Freedom a beneficiary of BreyerFest 2010, the largest model horse show in the world. Breyer will donate a portion of the event’s auction proceeds to the sanctuary, and Isadora-Cruce herself will make an appearance during the festival as part of the live equine entertainment. Also in attendance will be William and Elizabeth Shatner’s World Grand Champion Standardbred Roadster horse,All Glory, Breyer’s 2010 Celebration Horse.
