Rural Route Delivery
C&I's Poem of the Week for 12/28/2011
Where the two lane blacktop road ends, past manicured lawns
Way out where those who live there rise at the crack of dawn
You’ll find clear, cold water with a sky full of clean crisp air
And a way of life based on hard work, family, love and prayer
It’s a place that many dream of but not too many ever see
A cowboy way of life that still has rural route delivery
Oh, they got electricity, telephones, indoor plumbing and internet
But it’s always a mystery with the mail as to what they will get
There’s almost always a bill or two every day or so it seems
But once in a while the mail will bring a catalog full of dreams
Or one might hear the latest gossip or learn a brand new recipe
The mailman always has time to visit on the rural route delivery
From sunup to sundown they work hard living a cowboy way of life
They lean on God and each other during times of trouble and strife
Every Sunday their church bells ring loud inviting all to come
A special day and time to thank the Lord for all He has done
A day to rest from daily labors and enjoy being together as family
A day to ponder what they get in tomorrows rural route delivery.
