Mine House Collection
Mine House Collection pairs the best of the old and the thrill of the new
Jerome may be a ghost town, but odds are its less than 400 residents have some of the most stylish homes in Arizona.
Once an infamous hub of the Wild West, Jerome is now famous for the artisan furnishings of Western Heritage Furniture, crafted from reclaimed wood, and the contemporary rugs of Escalante Imports, handmade from wool and mohair by Zapotec weavers. Now, after sharing a hometown for more than two decades, the two acclaimed collections have come together in one storefront.
“The owner of Western Heritage has been a friend of mine for more than 20 years, and we said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if we could get together?’ ” explains Escalante Imports owner Dean Bubolo. “About that time a beautiful old building opened up in the middle of Main Street, so we went for it.”
Mine House Collection pairs Western Heritage signatures with Escalante’s boldly patterned textiles. “We’ve also brought in works from local and national artists, so you can see not just furniture and rugs but also the art and accessories that go with these contemporary Western designs,” Bubolo says. “So far, folks have been really wowed by what they see.” A staff designer offers other mix-and-match recommendations, and if a customer wants a broader selection, the respective warehouses are just a golf cart ride away.
Since opening its doors last April, Mine House has drawn customers from nearby Sedona and Scottsdale, as well as from the more than 750,000 tourists that visit Jerome each year, many of whom are drawn to the old mining town by the local ghost stories. “Our landlord swears there’s a gentleman named Walter who got shot here in 1905 and may still be hanging around,” says Bubolo. Fortunately, the golf cart is always parked nearby for a quick getaway.
