Mp3 playlist: Liberty Boots' Tony Benattar

Yeah, that's right. The guy doesn't do iPods. CDs in the car and vinyl on the turntable.

Read about Liberty Boots' Tony Benattar

As a teenager, Liberty Boot Co. founder Tony Benattar was a "total Stones head" and, naturally, was also into The Who. "It was the '70s — it wasn't retro when I got into it," he says. "I just picked up all the Stones remasters and ignored the Beatles remasters, just like I did when the music first came out." Benattar's musical influences also include Brit rockers "who you haven't necessarily heard of on this side of the pond" from a stint he did in London. He was introduced to country and bluegrass in college. "I picked up the bass along the way. I had no influences on country bass. I just tried to hear it in my head and let it come out. When I stopped trying to censor myself, the inspiration came out in the music. It was the same with the boots."

Here's an inspiring sampling of what Benattar's been listening to lately. Listen to or download the albums and tracks from the mp3 player above.
