Big Thunder Slumber

The new Big Thunder Suite at the Disneyland Hotel

The Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California, is currently in the midst of an extensive three-year renovation, including the addition of deluxe accomodations themed after the attractions of the Magic Kingdom. The Big Thunder Suite emits the same Wild West appeal as Frontier- land’s famed roller coaster, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, throughout 1,400 square feet of rustic design and luxurious
amenities. Just as with Disneyland itself, the suite reflects an attention to detail that transforms it into a fully immersive
experience, beginning with the sound of howling wolves at the push of the doorbell.

As guests enter to the rumble of a runaway train, they step into the foyer, styled like a mine shaft with fool’s gold inlaid in the floors. The shaft leads to the main living area, separating two bedrooms, where a scale and pan from the 1850s accent worn wood paneling repurposed from a Midwest barn. The room’s centerpiece is a stone-hearth fireplace that conceals a mounted flat-panel TV, and to the side, a knotted table creates an intimate dining space for eight beneath a wagon-wheel chandelier. The master bedroom emanates ranch refinement, and with the pull of a sliding barn door, the spacious master bath reveals bucket sinks and a free-standing copper tub.
