TV Western Collection

Rediscover Western Rarities with this boxed set of 48 DVDs

There were more westerns on prime time television in the late 1950s than any other type of program. A few survived for another two decades, but most were replaced by sitcoms, variety shows, and city-bound dramas.

Mill Creek Entertainment offers a chance to return to those thrilling days of yesteryear with The Definitive TV Western Collection. The branded wooden box set includes many of the genre’s classics, such as The Lone Ranger, Bat Masterson, Bonanza, and The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp. But for fans who grew up during the TV western’s golden age, the real treat will be rediscovering the shows that haven’t aired in decades. These include episodes of The Adventures of Jim Bowie (1956 – 58); 26 Men (1957 – 59), which was shot entirely on location in Arizona; The Adventures of Champion (1955 – 56), in which Gene Autry’s horse received top billing; and Brave Eagle (1955 – 56), a unique western in that its frontier stories were told from the Native American point of view.

Other rarities tucked in the collection include the 1960s western sitcom Pistols ’n’ Petticoats with Ann Sheridan and Dusty’s Trail, a bizarre western adaptation of Gilligan’s Island that oddly enough also starred Bob Denver.

The Definitive TV Western Collection includes an astonishing 600 episodes of classic TV westerns compiled on 48 DVDs. It will take you more than 265 hours to watch the entire set, so you’d better pop some popcorn and get comfortable before you get started.
