This tricked-out tepee is full of surprises
Lakota Indian John Eagleday designs an extravagant guest lodge with a deceptive exterior for Colorado estate.

Nestled in the woodsy hills of Evergreen, Colorado, Terry Epstein's home - christened Meadow Mountain Estate - is the epitome of rural luxury. Built in 1985 on eight private acres in the prestigious Soda Creek community, this truly unique piece of Rocky Mountain real estate was remodeled in 1992 to incorporate a more Western motif. "I had traveled to Santa Fe [New Mexico] numerous times when I decided I wanted to dramatically change the look and feel of my property," owner Epstein explains. "I wanted a property that was more comfortable, more natural ... a place where one could really enjoy life." Post-renovation, the main residence reflects the architecture, materials, and ambiance that Epstein admires about Santa Fe and now boasts an authentic Southwestern style accentuated by intricate details, such as the wild cactus cabinetry and custom beam work.
The three-year renovation project also included a 3,700-square-foot addition to the home, bringing it to a grand total of 10,000 square feet. But the main highlight of the estate is the guest tepee that connects to the house by a stone-slab walkway. Designed by Lakota Indian John Eagleday, the extravagant guest lodge is the perfect balance of tradition and innovation, featuring authentic hand-painted Native American murals, a stone-ringed fire pit, hardwood floors, and custom crafted waterproof canvas walls. The 600-square-foot heated tepee is the perfect place for camping out under the star-filled Colorado sky without sacrificing the comfort of modern luxuries.
Meadow Mountain Estate's other lavish amenities include a solar-heated indoor pool, 1,200-bottle wine cellar, home theater, private playground, six-stall stable, and a hot tub cavern, as well as numerous rooftop decks, terraces, and patios with breathtaking views of the Continental Divide."It's very welcoming and inviting," says Epstein. "It would make a wonderful retreat for any group - large or small." And, if you're itching to hit the slopes, several of the state's most popular ski resorts are less than an hour away.
