Cherokee Baskets- History Woven In Art exhibit presents the history of Cherokee basket weaving and features numerous baskets including one that survived the Trail of Tears, as well as baskets of contemporary design. The world’s tallest Cherokee basket by Cherokee National Treasure Rachel Dew and Donnay Leach of Tahlequah will be a primary feature of the Cherokee Baskets – History Woven in Art exhibition. The artists began weaving the distinctive Cherokee basket on Jan. 26. The world’s tallest Cherokee basket stands more than eight feet tall and has a base of 45 inches. |
