The Clint Collection
Next time the Clint Eastwood fan in your life says in his best Dirty Harry voice, “Go ahead. Make my day,” you can‚ by giving him (or her) Clint Eastwood: 35 Films, 35 Years at Warner Bros., the largest feature film box set ever released for a single artist. The collection documents Eastwood’s work at Warner Bros. from the time he first hung his Malpaso Productions shingle on the studio lot in 1975. However, two of the films included in the collection, Kelly’s Heroes and Where Eagles Dare, were actually produced by MGM prior to 1975 and were inherited by Warner Bros. when it acquired Turner Entertainment’s film library.
Of course, westerns comprise a significant chapter of the Eastwood legacy, and this collection contains some of his best, starting with The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976). The set also includes the rodeo comedy Bronco Billy (1980), the spaghetti western-inspired Pale Rider (1985), and the 1992 classic Unforgiven, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
The 35th and final film in the set is The Eastwood Factor, from critic and film historian Richard Schickel. This intimate documentary visits the locations where many Eastwood films were shot and contains interviews with the actor and director about the quality and scope of his work. A 24-page excerpt from Schickel’s book Clint: A Retrospective is also included in the 19-DVD set, along with studio letters, photographs, and other memorabilia.
