Open Range: Zink's Canvas Carryall

Upon entering the fashion world, designer Ben Freedland honed his craft while working for icons like Giorgio Armani, Bergdorf Goodman, and Michael Kors. But like his grandfather Robert Zink, an award-winning basket weaver and the namesake of his company, Freedland found his passion in creating original works and established Zink, a collection of artisan handbags of his own design made from lightweight Italian canvas and genuine leather.

Since moving southwest to Texas, where he recently opened his first retail store in Austin, Freedland has begun incorporating elements of the American West into his signature styles, like the Steamship tote, a design inspired by the vintage travel bags once carried by passengers heading overseas by boat (shown, $495). 512.502.5836, www.zinkstore.com
