R.I.P.: Harry Morgan (1915-2011)

Cowboys & Indians would like to offer condolences to the friends and family of Harry Morgan, character actor par excellence, who passed away today at the age of 96. Most of the obituaries are duly and respectfully noting that he was best known as the gruff but fair Col. Sherman T. Potter on TV’s M*A*S*H. But diehard Western fans also know that Morgan earned his spurs in such diverse films as The Ox-Bow Incident, High Noon, Bend of the River, How the West Was Won (as Ulysses S. Grant to John Wayne’s William Tecumseh Sherman), The Shootist, The Apple Dumpling Gang, Support Your Local Sheriff! and Support Your Local Gunfighter! He also co-starred with Richard Boone in the 1972-74 Western TV series Hec Ramsey. For these and other achievements, Morgan was inducted into the Hall of Great Western Performers at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in 2006.
