Editor’s Pick: Texas Ranch Roundup

Celebrate the hardworking cowboys of Texas at the “original ranch rodeo” August 17 – 18 in Wichita Falls. For more than 30 years, the Texas Ranch Roundup has showcased the traditions and skills of Lone Star cowpokes as they compete in everyday ranch work. And they’ll have plenty of opportunities to show what they do best in the event’s five categories: ranch bronc riding, calf doctoring, team penning, team branding, and wild cow milking.
Outside the ring, the Trails In art exhibit at the Kemp Center for the Arts will roundup the art of cowboy life through August 20. Back at the Roundup, make sure tobring your appetite for a taste of the Old West at the chuck wagon-style cooking contest. Last year’s menu included meatloaf, black-eyed peas, biscuits, and fried pies — yum.
